Playing Against The Defensive Strokes of Opponents

Every table tennis player has a particular stroke that they are most comfortable with. Personally, I prefer the chop, as I’m more of a defensive player who will attack when the opportunity presents itself.

However, your favorite stroke may be different than mine. Generally, there are two types of strokes defensive players use when playing against an opponent. So let’s start with my favorite.

When playing opponents, there are many styles that you may be exposed to. These styles vary as to how they play the game.

A style of play in table tennis is simply a strategy used to win a point. In this sense, it’s best that you know what style you’re faced with before a match. However, many times you won’t be able to know until you’re actually playing.

The Attacker and The Chopper

Today, we will take notes from the 2003 Singles World Championship match between Austria’s Werner Schlager and Korea’s Joo Se Hyuk. This match featured the best of both worlds- a great defense versus a great offense.

Nothing is worse than preparing for a match without having a plan or strategy. There’s not a sport in the world that doesn’t use strategy. Even playing video games involves using strategy and all you’re really doing is simply pressing buttons!

The military, teachers, business owners, writers, doctors all have one thing in common. They all rely on strategy to carry out what they want done.
