Men’s Semis; A Backyard Brawl
Although it’s not much of a surprise, the men’s semi final is riddled with geographical rivals.
China will play Hong Kong China, and Korea will play Japan.
The Asian men take pride in making sure the Europeans stay out of the finals, and they’ve succeeded once again. With that out of the way, the saga continues as per the norm.
It’s hard to believe China will lose in the semis no matter where the team is from, so the real match up is in the game between Korea and Japan.
There are bragging rights between the two of them no doubt, but you have to understand that the two of them are playing each other for the chance to play, and possibly beat China on their home court.
A victory against in China in the Worlds would set up a dramatic summer in Beijing.
Korea didn’t exactly dominate Germany, it was won with a team effort. Although, I don’t think the Koreans were sweating too much.
Japan has the most to prove, and I think they’re the better squad coming into this match. Plus, a Japan vs. China final at the worlds in China, preceding the Olympics in China, would be astounding.
A quick note, Hong Kong China’s Li Ching was sandbagging at the beginning of the worlds and they were still moving on.
Their last match, Li Ching was the bright spot. So, as hard as it is for me to believe, China will still have to get past Hong Kong China to make the magic happen.
