Most of the top ranked players in the table tennis world rely on speed gluing their ping pong rubber. The reason is because speed glue can help their ping pong rubber get more control over spin and gain more speed. This practice has been going on since the early eighties when a few pro players would apply this technique when preparing for a table tennis match. So how do you speed glue your ping pong rubber correctly?
First, you want to gather all the materials needed to speed glue the ping pong rubber. The first thing needed is a brush of some kind. This is needed to spread the glue directly onto the sponge and blade. Many players have also utilized rollers to assist in applying pressure to the ping pong rubber. A pair of scissors is also needed to complete the process.
Next you want to start off by removing the ping pong rubber from the blade. It is advisable that you really take your time when doing this. You can also help out the process of speed gluing your ping pong rubber by spreading a small amount of varnish to protect the ping pong racket from tearing off.
However, before you begin speed gluing your ping pong rubber, make sure that the glue is approved by the ITTF. Then spread a very small amount of speed glue directly to the ping pong blade and the ping pong rubber. Start off with a small amount until you get comfortable with applying the speed glue to your ping pong rubber. Later on you can put more on as you gain more experience.
After the speed glue is applied to the ping pong rubber, let it dry for a little while. Then repeat the process over again. This is because it will take more than one time to get the speed glue to stick to the ping pong rubber and blade. If you find that it’s harder to apply the speed glue around the sides of the ping pong rubber and blade, pinch the edges until you see it sticking. Now you’re ready to start smashing the ball past your opponent with crazy spins!
