I had the pleasure of having my arm twisted into playing the Dirty Dozen at SPiN New York. SPiN was the first club of the SPiN franchise and features a decent number of social play tables, a lit centre court table and a private room with two tables and a private bar. There is a full bar and a great atmosphere.
The Dirty Dozen offers $500US in prize money, $400 for the winners and $100 for the runners up. 2 Man team format, there are 3 matches, each is a single set to 11 and you play one singles each and a doubles if there is a tie breaker required. I was fortunate enough to make the final on my debut appearance there, it was great fun and the standard of play is fairly decent!
With two great hosts, one of which I had trained with during the week, the entertaining character of Wally Green, there is no shortage of excitement. I was also fortunate enough to sit down and chat with Susan Sarandon, Hollywood actress, oscar award winner and one of the 3 founders of the SPiN franchise.
It's clear that Susan is a great fan of table tennis and she enjoys to watch it a lot! There were also two games for anyone to play in the club for free drinks which usually involve running around a table and hitting balls or dancing competitions.
I would definitely recommend that anyone in the area of a SPiN club or on holiday should drop by and check it out, it really is a surreal experience which shouldn't be missed! There are SPiN clubs also in LA, Milwaukee, Hollywood and Toronto as well as a new club in Dubai now also.
